What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I was so inspired by own experiences at sea in storms and hurricanes, and knew I just HAD to try to tell others something of what it was like. I was also hugely impressed by the skill of my co-author, Captain Tim Schofield, and the incredible bravery and endurance of earlier sailors. I also loved finding the pictures!

We were still aboard, happy to be safely near land, when we heard the captain say
“If the weather forecast had reached me earlier I would never have come in”.
I was amazed. Surely it was best to have come in to the safety of the lagoon, away from the wild deep sea!
Then the captain pointed to the shore. It was littered with the wrecks of large ships. The small ones had already been pounded to bits.
He explained that in a hurricane, or any bad storm, the only safe place is at sea, Here, we would be driven by the wind onto the land and perish.
So we must struggle against the odds to stay where we were, not be driven, like them, onto the shore …
