What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I have a keen interest in health and weight loss and finding out what products or diets really do what they claim. Both the Paleo diet and the vegan diet are very popular and have some controversy surrounding them. I wanted to explore the diets and see for myself how they stacked up.

Paleo and vegan – two words that are being heard more and more. These are the names of the two biggest diets in the world now and you have a lot of people siding with one diet, while lambasting the other diet. While we have seen so many diets come and go, why are these two diets garnering all the attention and large followings?
The answer is that people are getting results in losing weight, helping control or eliminate health issues, and just plain feeling better. When people find success with a diet they tell their family and friends and the diet goes viral. This has happened with both diets, although the Paleo diet is getting a lot more press.

The diet industry is a multi-billion dollar industry that is continually fed by a growing number of overweight adults and children. We are in a health crisis with an epidemic of diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. People are looking for answers and the Paleo diet and the vegan diet are leading the pack as far as popular diets that supposedly have those answers.
The vegan diet has actually been around for a long time, while the Paleo diet has really taken off in the last few years. Both diets can actually be traced well back in time – as far back as the Paleolithic era for the Paleo diet.

What is amazing is the passion and intense loyalty that the supporters of both diets have for their chosen diet. There are so many Paleo and vegan dieters who have really embraced their diet as not just a diet, but a way of life. They are eager to tell you what their diet can do for you.

The hype for these two diets shows no signs of letting up and you have probably seen books or articles about the diets. Perhaps a friend started one of the diets and told you it’s the best diet ever! Almost anyone who started a diet has failed and ends up starting another diet – and another. Are these diets the exception to that vicious cycle rule?

Most people are skeptic when they hear about the latest great diet that people are getting great results with. They have been down that road many times and are tired of being burned. Enter the vegan diet and the Paleo diet. These diets have legs, and while other diets have come and gone, these two continue to gain support and testimonials. Can one diet be that great while the other diet be that bad?

The controversy over what is the best diet is fueled by the fact that the diets are so opposite of each other in what you should be eating. The Paleo diet, also called the “caveman” diet, touts the need to eat healthy meats and fats, lots of vegetables, and some fruit, while eliminating almost all carbohydrates, especially grains.

The vegan diet centers on whole grains, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and fruit, while eliminating meat, fowl, dairy products, and eggs. The foods that both diets agree are important are vegetables, nuts, seeds, and some fruits. Both diets also agree that you need to avoid all processed foods. These points are the only common ground for the two diets.

Being a health and fitness enthusiast myself, this book really caught my attention. It is informative and addresses good and bad of both diets. In my opinion you can be healthy or unhealthy following any diet. You know your body best. You should try and find what works best for you. As a long time vegan, I found what works for me, concerning my health and my beliefs. But veganism isn’t one size fits all, and if it’s not for you, there is nothing bad in that. But every step, concerning environment or compassion, is the step in right direction. If you just reduce meat intake, or increase healthy vegetables and fruits intake, you are doing what’s good for you. It’s ultimately all about quality of food you consume and balance.

I checked out Ken Tyler’s book, Paleo Diet vs. Vegan Diet and I liked the fact that he was critical of certain parts of both diets. It was an easy read and now I am ready to lose weight.
