What inspires you to write?
Writing allows me to entertain readers all over the world. Sometimes readers tell me that they get lost in my stories. That is the greatest feeling!
Tell us about your writing process.
When I write, I typically burn a scented candle, pour myself a glass of Diet Coke, and play instrumental music. This trifecta allows me to get in the "mode" of writing.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Yes, I do talk to my characters–mentally. I ask them, "How far would you go in this circumstance? What risks are you willing to take? What are your boundaries?" Only by creating real characters with real characteristics will the story be understood and accepted by the reader as realistic.
What advice would you give other writers?
Just write. Don't spend too much time on social media and don't worry about what other writers are achieving. This is typically a solo sport. Focus on your own craft and try to enjoy it. That's what writing is about. It is about expression and your own enjoyment. Don't write if it becomes a task or something you are dreading.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I was very lucky to be surrounded by publishers such as Lachesis, CrossRoads and Sinister Grin publishing. They have embraced my work and supported my efforts. There is no way I could have been successful without them.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
The future of publishing is unclear. People are not reading as much as they used to. So, we have to press forward and continue to entertain those who are still finding enjoyment in the printed word.
