What inspires you to write?
Anything and everything. I know it sounds like a typical response, but it’s true! I can find inspiration in television shows, music…whatever gets me daydreaming.
Tell us about your writing process.
I live and breathe by To-Do lists, and my writing process is no different. I have a general outline of my ideas for a book, then work from it. The dialogue, the scenes….that all comes from the daydreaming I mentioned before. But without an idea of what I need to be daydreaming about, I get completely sidetracked.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I listen to them and let their story be told in their own words. I write in different time periods, which means different variations of language/catchphrases/etc. What works for a character in a steampunk novel just wouldn’t do in an urban fantasy.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write because you love it. Passion for writing shows in the work you produce, so make it shine through.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self-publish because I wanted control over every aspect of my book, not just the writing part.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I believe self-publishing is the future and has brought book publishing as a whole to the masses. There are some great books out there that have been ignored by traditional publishing venues/literary agents, but are considered huge successes since they were self-published. I don’t think the publishing world will ever go back to the way it once was.
