What inspires you to write?
Several things inspire me to write! Some of the things that inspire me to write include:
– the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion on a topic with others
– learning more about a topic or subject
– connecting with and getting to know others through writing
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
As I enjoy writing non-fiction, some of my favorite authors are those who write and publish non-fiction books. Some of my favorite authors are:
– John Ivanko and Lisa Kivirist
– Cyndi Ball
– Kerry Hannon
I appreciate the ideas and inspiration that the above authors share in their books.
Tell us about your writing process.
I usually like to write my first drafts – of books and articles – in notebooks. After I get my ideas down on paper, I then type up my stories and articles on the computer.
I enjoy the process of writing by hand. Sometimes, I write while seated in an armchair or while outside at a park or cafe.
What advice would you give other writers?
There are a few pieces of advice I would give other writers. Those are:
– to be consistent in writing. Whether that is writing every day or writing once a week, be consistent in spending time writing. This is what will get you to having the words you need to have an article, book, etc. completed.
– to know what your writing goals are. Is it to have a book published in the next year? Is it to have three books published in the next five years? Do you want to be a Writer-in-Residence or teach writing workshops? When you know what your writing goals are, it is easier to create a plan to help you create a plan to reach your goal(s).
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I was looking for a book publisher where I would have a say in the publishing process, including the cover design and layout, as well as have both print and ebook formats available for my book. As I went through submitting to a few different small publishers and literary agents and asking questions about the steps towards publication of the publisher I published with, this is what lead me to publish with Atmosphere Press. The path of writing and to publication has been a journey of growing and learning.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Because writers and authors have a variety of goals when it comes to their writing and publishing, it is good to see that there are many options available to writers and authors when it comes to book publishing. It would be great to have the variety of options – different price points, choice between softcover and hardcover, length of publishing time, etc. – continue to be available in addition to new ideas and solutions being tried and offered for the future of book publishing.
What genres do you write?: Self-help, business, gardening, remote work, working from home, home office
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
