What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
While none of these characters are based on my high school or college students, I'm aware of the issues teens and young adults face and the ways they are misunderstood. After I wrote TALENT many people asked what happened next, so this is a follow up story or sequel.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I've taught classes of 38 students who met for 50 minutes a day and craved more attention than I could give them. Sandee needs to be noticed. Diego needs confidence. Pete, on the other hand, has plenty of confidence but he's been known to–oops! That would be a spoiler. Jenn is noticed far more than Sandee, but she can't see it. There are more characters, including some adults, and they all came from my observations of people I've worked with, observed, or read about. Did I model anyone on myself? If you know me or have followed www.writeradvice.com, read the book and let me know what you think.
