The story is set in the year 2771, after successful colonization of a habitable planet orbiting a red dwarf star system. After two centuries without contact from Earth, the inhabitants of that world find themselves faced with the sudden and violent arrival of representatives of Earth, who appear fixated on the task of annexing Capicua and other territories in an aggressive move towards an interstellar empire.
Toni Miura is an inhabitant of Capicua who due to family difficulties decides to join the Capicuan Defense Force, a decrepit military outfit which has seen no war since its inception. Accepted into MEWAC, a unique unit fielding giant armored Suits as their principle weapon platform, his platoon soon finds itself in the midst of battle despite being unprepared, with the Earth Federation Forces demonstrating a level of technological advancement which quickly turns the battle into a rout.
Finding themselves behind enemy lines, Toni and the remnants of his platoon find themselves abandoned in the midst of the wild on a planet which, due to its being tidally locked with the sun and the nature of its orbit, suffers bouts of hurricane-like conditions with regular frequency. Theirs becomes a race against time to outwit their enemy, outrun the Winds and deliver an odd but important Bavarian prisoner-of-war to their commanders.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Every science fiction book I have ever read served in some way or another to motivate me. But the initial concrete reasons are a bit more basic; I was bored. It was, however, the birth of my daughter which motivated me to finish it. I should add that, being a fan of all things associated with mobile suits, Heinlein´s “Starship Troopers” served as a great inspiration.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Toni is perhaps a younger version of myself, while Kaiser is what I hope one day to be
As a former militia officer in the Portuguese army´s School of Engineering, as a former instructor in that field, and presently as a Police officer, the immense richness of interactions that I have had with my countrymen has allowed me to easily forge characters from facets of people who I have worked with.
About the Author:
Despite having been born in Portugal, I was one among many Portuguese privileged with having grown up in South Africa. This experience proved to be critical; I now think in English, although I returned to my home country twenty years ago. After finishing high-school, my interest in all things technological led me to the University of Coimbra, where I spent three years studying Physics Engineering and trying to stay clear of student´s block (an annoying variant of writer´s block).
Despite reasonable results, I eventually felt the need for a different life, and in 2002 I joined the Portuguese Armed Forces as a militia officer in Engineering, where I spent five very fulfilling years serving my country.
In 2007 I became a Police officer, and have since then been working and living in Lisbon in the Departmento de Armas e Explosivos.
In June of this year I became a father for the first time. I have dedicated my book to her, of course.
