‘When You Can Why Not?’ is a collection of seventeen short stories which talk about, how many of us are ignorant about the various existing Indian Laws and Acts which are there to protect us from anyone flouting these rules. These stories are a fictional take on our daily life and tell us about our legal rights and the recourse we have towards domestic violence, child marriages, child labour, acid attacks, workplace harassment, maternity leave benefits, cutting trees, usage of high beams in city limits, library rights, LPG Insurance, LGBT rights, live-in relationships, polluting lakes, National Green Tribunal rules, Open Prisons and filing a complaint from home.

Dr. Patnaik went to the resident doctor, Dr. Ghosh’s room and showed him the reports.
“Ghosh, I have checked the reports and it is confirmed that Moni’s cancer is due to a
prolonged exposure to chemicals and consuming polluted water” said Dr.Patnaik.
“That’s horrible, how did I miss that in the reports?”
“The second batch of tests I had done was to check the presence of chemicals in his blood.”
“He seemed to have been exposed to these chemicals since the past five years, the cancer was
slowly building up, he is lucky we discovered it in the early stages.”
