What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Having struggled with vegetables all my life and now seeing how difficult it is for my own teenage kids to make healthy choices, with the barrage of options in front of them.
I decided the best thing was to ‘catch them early’ and help be part of the process to give kids a love of veg while still young enough not to be so influenced by friends and advertising.
At the same time, I also wanted to create fun books the kids would love in their own right – not because of them being abut veg or creating healthy habits. I always loved reading great rhyming picture books with our kids and hope you will enjoy mine just as much.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I’m working my way through different vegetables to build up a series of books. I chose Broccoli first as this is one vegetable I really struggle with. I decided to use Onion for the second book as it felt like an easy entry point for a lot of kids – less threatening than something green on the plate.
Plus, I loved the idea of an onion wanting to come out from the shadows as an ingredient and become the main focus of the meal.
Think all the tastiest food,
You know there's every chance,
We're hidden somewhere in the meal,
You'll just need a second glance.
