What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
It started with the idea for the series. However, for a new-and-yet-unknown author, I need to build my base. So, I came up with the idea of a prequel featuring a bit of backstory for one of the main characters in the series.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Oh, in my head. Really, I get inspiration from characters in TV shows, novels I read or just plain folks I've met over the years.

CHAPTER ONE
"I understand that rent is due the first of the month and it’s now the eighth. But could you please give me some time to get everything in order? In case you didn't know, my mom passed away a few days ago." Dylan listened for a moment and said, "Thank you, thank you so much."
He disconnected. As if I didn’t have enough bills to pay! he thought. And he was still trying to come to terms with losing his mother. What a bloodsucker!
After graduating from college just about a year ago, he’d moved back with his mom to help care for her and to save money while paying off student loans. Everywhere he looked in the living area with an open kitchen, he saw glimpses of her—standing by the fridge checking the date of her next appointment on the doctor’s reminder magnet. “Pick up your socks!” “Put the dishes in the dishwasher!” She used to yell at him for leaving things all over the place. Now, he glanced at the mess in the kitchen sink and decided to clean up. His mom might not bother to decorate the apartment, but she had kept her place neat and tidy.
It had always been just his mom and him. Mimi Roche had worked hard as a waitress to support both of them. Time and time again, he remembered her kneeling by her bed at night to pray. They had had happy days in the apartment celebrating his significant events like Confirmation, graduation. She had been so proud of him when he snagged one of the few coveted management trainee spots in the one-year program of a well-known regional property management company.
The buzzing of his phone interrupted his reminisce. Not wanting to answer any more calls from the landlord or loan officers, he glanced at the screen, expecting to swipe the decline icon. Instead, it was Tommy. They had been best friends since high school. Both had gone on to the same college, but each pursued a different career path. Although they were never roommates, they lived in the same dorm for a couple of years.
"Yo," Dylan said.
"Hey, are you still moping around?"
"No, I don't mope around."
"Are you dressed? My guess is that you're still in your shorts and T-shirt. It's past noon."
He glanced down at his shorts and T-shirt. "So? I have off until tomorrow. Bereavement leave."
"Yeah, I know. But really, how you holding up?"
“Meh.”
"Tell you what. Why don't you get dressed and come meet me for lunch? I have something for you."
