What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
When I was travelling through Australia, I wanted to find a book that captured the backpacker experience in the same way that The Beach does for Thailand. When I could not find such a book, I decided to write it myself.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
They are all loosely based on the people I met travelling as well as embodying different facets of my own personality/fears. I believe in strong characterisation – especially for thrillers. If you are going to place your characters in a bad situation, it is important to ensure that the reader cares about them first.
About the Author:
I grew up in the north east of England, where I studied English Literature at the University of Sunderland. After taking a pretty dull day job, I decided to quit and go travelling. I spent 3 years travelling through Australasia and Asia where I turned my hand to all manner of crazy stunts, which I now draw upon for my writing. Now settled back in the UK, I am happily married and always thinking of my next book.
