What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
From an early age I have read science fiction and fantasy. My favorite authors are Arthur C. Clarke and J.R.R. Tolkien. I started writing in 2010 and have written sci-fi and dystopian, but I always wanted to try fantasy. I read mainly fantasy and wondered whether I could do better. In 2018, I started my epic fantasy series, Song of Echoes.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I begin by drawing a map of my world, The Five Realms, and then built the story on who would live in this world, and how the geography would have shaped them. I wanted a range of male and female, and young and old characters, so devised them from this requirement. I also wanted a mix of inexperienced and experienced characters and how they would interact. My characters learn about the world and situation along with the reader. My heroes have weaknesses and doubts, but grow in confidence as the progress.
