Reader Survey and Giveaway 2019

By Book Goodies 696 Comments

a Rafflecopter giveaway

It’s survey time! Give us your opinions and feedback in our Reader’s Survey and be entered to win a $75 Amazon Gift Card… how cool is that??? Make sure you do actually fill out the survey or all your entries will be deleted. Nobody wants that.

If this looks familiar, we did the exact same survey in 2015 and we want people to take the survey again, or for the first time, so we can compare how the answers have changed with the shifts in publishing. We are also going to restart the BookGoodies Podcast series so the question below about “what would you ask an author” will be using to craft those podcasts! Make sure you join our newsletter so you will know when we launch other giveaways – we have several planned over the next few weeks.

Be sure to click the links in the boxes to go to the survey and other pages with things for you to earn entries! Or click here if you can’t get to the link inside the survey box 🙂

I blast late ’60s and early ’70s psychedelic music when I write. Sometimes an obscure lyric or riff will prompt me onto a “Magic Carpet Ride” and into a place unrelated to the actual content of the song — a place where imagination rules and from which I feel comfortable to create my fiction. This technique worked for me. Last week, the retired editor of Reader’s Digest posted that my SF/F novel was the best science fiction that he’s read in several years.

Crime novels are my favorite, so probably more of those.

I have a few textbooks that I need for my dissertation… so that’s what I’d buy.

It depends on what I’m reading, whether I can listen to music or not…

If I win the gift card, I will put it toward a Kindle Paperwhite to give some friends of mine who live in Papua New Guinea. They don’t always have electricity, and in the evenings when it’s dark and there’s not much to do, there’s competition among their five kids for the one Kindle they currently have.

I much prefer silence when I read (or write). Music is distracting.

I don’t listen to music when I read unless it’s instrumental but usually nothing. If I won, I think I’d buy one of the books that’s been on my wish-list the longest but I have yet to pull the trigger on due to price – Hollywood Costume or Jaws: Memories from Martha’s Vineyard (both hardcover and over $35 & not available in ebook!)

Sometimes I have the TV on just above a whisper but most times it’s just quiet.

I would get the next Jeffery Deaver or Lee Child book.

I have a huge wish list, so I’d just start at the top and work my way down. Most of the books I’d love to buy right now are those in the Star Wars universe, to catch up my collection. There are also a couple of YA books and some fantasy books that I’ve wanted to pick up for a while.

Silence while reading has never happened for me. Even now, I hear the sounds of animals calling out or children playing. That’s not noise, it’s the sound of normal lives. I’ve also had too much quiet while reading and found I can’t concentrate. So I’d really have to have some kind of background noise.
