Shelly Clover lives on an Island with an incredible past and a dire present.
She has an undiagnosed condition that complicates her life. Distinguishing between reality and illusion isn’t easy for Shelly…
Something bad happened to her when she was three – an event so horrific – she suppressed it deep in her unconscious. Many years later, and on her birthday, she’s given a mysterious book written and addressed to her. In it, are clues to her past, and clues to the Island’s unchartered fall from grace. As she starts having powerful flashbacks about this traumatic event, she is forced to confront herself, her tormentors, and an unspeakable evil that has returned to haunt the Island once again.
With a fractured mind, and with help from her bizarre book, she must fight to save everybody from the unseen. The very people who have oppressed, tormented and made her life miserable -are the very people she must save.

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
I have a psychology degree and I teach Psychology A-level. I find people and their motivations for doing things particularly interesting. With this in mind, I am not looking to incorporate zombies or vampires into any of my books – not ever! I want to bring out the nit and grit of real people, experiencing real emotions, in real situations. Throughout all of this, I want to tie in the power of the mind as it struggles to comprehend events that are nigh on impossible to understand. Consequently, my books have elements of the supernatural where people encounter situations and events that are beyond any earthly jurisdiction, and they struggle for points of reference to make sense of it.
Put it like this, one of the hardest aspects of this whole self-publishing process, was deciding on which genre my Young Adult book fits into. It’s psychology. It’s mystery. It’s fantasy. It’s dystopian. All these components make for something out there…something that’s ‘definitely’ a little bit other, a little bit different to the rest…
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Write from the heart.
Write about what you know, and what you have experienced, or what you think you would understand if you did experience it.
And, If you are going to be a writer, you are going to have to write. Sounds simple, but it is so very true.
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
After nine years of only ever finishing the first three chapters of any of my sci-fi, techno-thrillers and fantasy novels, I had the proverbial watershed moment. It was the low-of-lows and I looked deep inside myself for a solution. I knew that I had to write…and that I ‘had’ to bring forth from the recesses of my soul ‘that’ golden idea. And, it came… Three days after an eventful August in 2009, I sat at the bottom of a park with my laptop and wrote the first four pages of Mis-fit, Misplaced, Miss Shelly Clover. When I looked at those pages, I was mildly astonished to see I’d written in first-person for the first time ever, and that my protagonist was a teenage girl. From then on in, (for the first time ever) the words just flowed, and if I ever went longer than a couple of days without writing, I’d get an anxious knot in my stomach – a form of separation anxiety if you like. Writing Mis-fit, Misplaced, Miss Shelly Clover was a delight!
