Full time whiskey enthusiast Doug Morgan is on a downward spiral. Over the past two years the Irish man has played witness to the slow and steady decay of his life and he’s finally called time. Haunted by an unacknowledged pain Doug swaps the white collar nine to five of Belfast for one last charge into oblivion in the City of Angels. A scotch-soaked stranger in a strange land Doug befriends a series of like minded and self destructive vagabonds who, like him, are aiming for chaos. In a city that sees thousands of people per year come to be discovered why has one man come to get lost?
Targeted Age Group:
With Lost Angeles I’ve attempted to tell a story that’s true, and honest. As a roman á clef novel there’s a degree of real life experience involved in the creation of the book and a degree of narrative driven artistic license. The key to my writing is trying to find a way to marry the two and still keep the emotional honesty where it all stemmed from.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Listen to the voices in your head. The doubt will make you a better writer if you don’t let it cripple you with fear.
Belfast native David Louden is the author of the roman á clef neo-beat novel LOST ANGELES. His major influences have been cited as Charles Bukowski, John Fante and William S. Burroughs amongst others. He currently lives in Belfast with his fiancé and pug Molly where he battles fuel poverty, the weeping liver and the 9-5 white collar slave trade.
I finally had something I wanted to say.
