What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
My precious children so that they be inspired to dream big and turn their dreams into reality.
The more than 50 inspiring Latinos, Latinas and Latin-inspired entrepreneurs and leaders who shared their stories and mentorship on the Logra Tu Dream podcast, which made this book possible.
The 54 million hardworking and brave Latinos & Latinas living in this country who are pursuing their dreams of creating a better life for their families. These brave Latinos and Latinas have made immense sacrifices, leaving their mothers, fathers and sometimes their children behind in their home countries in order to pursue better opportunities in the US so that they can give their families a better future.
They are heroes who are willing to endure the separation from the people they love most in the world and to work harder than anybody on the most difficult jobs in order to achieve their dreams of giving their families a better life.
Yet I saw that many times, standing in the way of their dreams was a lack of access to inspiration, mentorship, business advice and tools from successful Latino and Latin-inspired role models.
I have realized that my mission is to do my part in helping other Latinos achieve their dreams of securing a better future for their families and growing their entrepreneurial businesses.
They are why I decided to write this book.

BRING YOUR UNIQUE VALUE TO THE MARKETPLACE
“You got to start thinking for yourself. We are all beautifully individual; there is so much that makes us uniquely our own. But we don’t do a good job exploring the full extent of that potential; we become complacent, fitting in what everything is supposed to be. We are just absorbing the opinion of others through osmosis and ignorance is spreading through us like a really bad virus.” – Raymmar Tirado, artist, digital strategist, creative explorer of ideas and founder of Raymmar.com
Find your uniqueness and mission
We all have a gift inside of us and our responsibility is to share it with the world. When we are able to unearth our gift and share, we reach the maximum expression of ourselves. When we don’t, the fire inside us is extinguished.
There is nobody on earth like you: you are a unique being with something wonderful to offer the world. You have experience, personality, beliefs, skills and spirit that nobody else has.
You also have a mission, whether you have identified it or not. You have a purpose that your soul wants to fulfill in this life. The mission is what tugs at your heart and makes its presence felt in your gut. It’s like a hidden force trying to guide you to what will make you truly happy and fulfilled.
Sometimes we recognize our mission and embrace it, and sometimes we don’t. If you do as all the Latinos and Latinas I have interviewed, you will find your success. If you don’t find it or if you bury it, it will extinguish the fire you have inside you, leaving a deep hole in your soul. It will haunt you throughout your life, because when you feel its call and ignore it, this will create sadness, anger and regret.
“Sometimes what you think is your biggest weakness is your biggest strength”
– Deldelp Medina, CEO Avion Ventures and Co-Founder Latino Startup Alliance
It is hard to find and embrace our own uniqueness. It is hard because society trains us to conform, to be and think like everybody else. Since childhood, we learned that if we stand out, we’ll get picked on at school. As we grew up, we learned that if we are to succeed, we need to conform to the norms of society.
We learned that we needed to go to college and get a good job. Once in the workforce, we learned the rules we needed to follow to “get ahead.” We were evaluated in large measure based on how we followed these rules:
Don’t be yourself and communicate what you really feel because you’ll get in trouble. Don’t think differently and challenge the status quo. Don’t be too original because you will not fit in, etc…
What this indoctrination creates is group think, in which people conform to the norm because of the fear that if they are different they will get punished and not get ahead. We get home from work and turn on the TV, where we are bombarded by negativity, irrelevant gossip and TV ads for products that most of the time will not make us healthy or wealthy (soda, junk food, cars, etc.).
The old media wants us to watch more TV so they can sell more ads to advertisers so we can consume more of what they are selling to us. They focus on negative news stories because we are wired psychologically to pay more attention when we feel fear and anxiety. They focus on selling you the idea that in order to be successful you need to buy more stuff, look like the celebrity images you see, etc.
They are selling you the idea that to be successful you need to be like everybody else, which could not be further from reality.
With all these negative influences and the indoctrination to conform, to be scared, and to follow, it is tough to find your uniqueness and even tougher to embrace it. This is why, in order to find your uniqueness, you need to turn off the TV and learn to recognize when they are trying to sell you or indoctrinate you.
Think independently because if you don’t you will be living somebody else’s life. If you live somebody else’s life, you will not find yourself and unearth your gift. Resist the temptation to conform, as conforming leads to mediocrity.
People who conform don’t come up with original ideas; they don’t take risks, and they haven’t summoned the courage to pursue their calling. They are not willing to make the hard choices, put in the work, and endure the pain that comes with pushing through the difficult barriers that hold them back.
The market has one rule: it rewards value.
The highest value you can create in this world is to express your uniqueness in pursuit of your mission. Your uniqueness is comprised of your skills, life experience, passion, ideas and personality.
