Life Advice for Teens from an Ageless Grandma by Brenda DeHaan

Being a teen isn’t easy during the best of times, and times haven’t been the best! “Life Advice for Teens from an Ageless Grandma” offers encouragement with common sense tips for teens. Photographs support the 35 subjects and add interest. Sometimes it’s the way an idea is presented that makes it click. Conversational style and unique photos make this book’s advice very accessible. Questions to ponder or discuss are included with each topic.
The book ends with a list of hotline numbers for teens who need to talk with someone about more serious mental health issues.
Teens today are struggling. This newly released book should help young adults feel better about themselves now and feel more hopeful about their futures.

Targeted Age Group:: YA
Heat/Violence Level: Heat Level 1 – G Rated Clean Read

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I have worked with teenagers throughout my adult life. I taught high school English for many years before switching to K-12 library. The advice in this book is similar to discussions I have had with individual students and classes.
A highlight of my life is being a grandma to three incredible kids. After a health scare (which turned out fine), I decided to write a book of "grandma advice." I wanted my grandchildren to have it for their adolescent years, and I wanted it to help current teenagers.
Not everyone has a grandma to share her perspective, so readers can be "adopted" grandkids. Besides, can you ever have too many grandparents trying to help you?
Sometimes it's challenging for parents and teens to have productive conversations. This book has a variety of question that may spark some fun discussions.

Don't document dumbness.

Don't document dumb decisions or comments online. They might seem funny at the time, but you could really regret them later, especially when applying for jobs, scholarships, or colleges.
The brain doesn't fully mature regarding decision-making skills until you're approximately 25. You continue to learn after that, of course. Just keep some things private.
Should I delete some of my social media posts?

Let people see your inner light.

Allow people to see how beautiful you are inside. Don't hide your sparking self in the shadows. Smile, be genuine, and connect with others. Start conversations by asking a few questions. Brighten their lives with your light.
Do I allow people to see the real me?
