About Tanya Holmes:
Amazon Bestselling Author Tanya Holmes is a Golden Leaf double-finalist, a Romance Writers of America Golden Heart finalist, a recipient of the Maggie Award, the MICA Award, as well as Overall Winner of the Sandy Haddad Award and a two-time finalist and one-time winner of The Emily (Best of the Best). What inspires you to write?
Music, poetry, a moving film, or perhaps a TV or movie character. It all depends on my muse’s mood. For my current book, The Darkest Frost, the story’s hero came from a variety of character sources: Jane Eyre’s Mr. Rochester, Gerard Butler’s Dracula, Prison Break’s Michael Scofield as played by Wentworth Miller, Leonard Nimoy’s Mr. Spock, and Adrian Paul’s Highlander. Each of these characters provided the inspiration for my tortured, emotionally repressed hero, a man at war with himself and the secrets he must keep.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m a little of both. Plotter and Pantser. I do outlines and scene blocking because I have to know where I’m going. But the pantser in me loves to toss in a few surprises every now and then just to keep it interesting.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I have been known to voice whole scenes filled with dialogue just out of nowhere. When a characters starts talking to you, you’d best listen and let it play out. I’ve discovered some real plot gems doing this.
What advice would you give other writers?
Stay true to yourself. Don’t follow trends. Write from the heart. Deviate from this and it’ll show.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I was offered a publishing contract with a small publisher, but after I really thought about, weighing the pros and cons, I decided to go solo. It was the right choice *for me.* I like the autonomy Indie publishing gives you. There’s freedom in that.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It changes so fast that the future is today.
