About Sugar Jamison:
Sugar Jamison is a southern belle trapped in a New Yorker’s body. With a love of big hair and high heeled shoes, she spends her day at her very normal day job and night dreaming up sweet but sassy romances. Sugar also writes steamier romances under the name Ginger Jamison. You can see what she’s up to at http://www.sugarjamison.com/
What inspires you to write?
I was always a day dreamer. In school I would pay more attention to the stories I made up in my head than what was going on in math class. When I graduated from college I finally decided to put all those day dreams on paper. I have been writing every day ever since.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m not an outliner. A scene usually just pops in my head or an idea and I write a book around it. Sometimes something as simple as a Facebook post can inspire an entire book.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I’m the boss of my characters. I have a very clear idea of who I want them to be. And they are usually all people I would want to be friends with.
What advice would you give other writers?
Join a writers group! Let people read your work. Listen to advice. Be open to learning.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
At first I wanted my books to be in a bookstore so I went with a big publisher and have been very happy there so far. I self publish some of my work because I can get it out to the world quicker than a publisher can. For new authors I would encourage them to explore their options and choose the path that is the best for them.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I actually have no idea what the future of publishing is. I signed my first contract in 2012 and in that short time publishing has made a big shift. I will be keeping a close watch though.
