About Rena Harami:
Rena Harami started writing her first book at the age of fourteen called ‘The Seven Guardians’, one year later she had finished it and then the second one just popped into her mind called ‘Heavenly Hell’. After that she never stopped writing. She studied Movie and Theater in Greece and wrote a lot of scripts which helped her with her writing. ‘World of Reign’ started as an idea at the age of twenty and she has been working on it ever since.
She currently lives in Greece where she was born and grew up, working constantly at the second book of the series.
What inspires you to write?
Writing is my life so it is something that I do every day. I keep my mind open for new ideas and those ideas are what really inspires me. If it is something that really hooks me then the idea by itself is something that keeps my imagination going, my mind instantly gives it life. My characters is what really inspires me.
Tell us about your writing process.
I usually like to write my first draft on the paper, I take a pencil and a blank paper and I write all my thoughts down about each chapter. After I passed it on my computer and that’s when I do my second draft. But before I start doing anything I like to make a board with all my characters and put down below all their characteristics (color of their hair-eyes, scratches etc.). What really helps me is to sketch the important objects like swords, emblems and map because I have them right in front of me and I can describe them more easily inside my book without making any mistake.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Each character I write is really important to me and each of them have different personalities so it is like I am inside someone’s else’s mind. I can see what they see and feel what they feel, so I go along with their steps. We don’t talk, the moment I right about a character I become him so I do what he or she would do. But I do get emotional, especially when one of my characters get killed, I can feel what their loved ones can feel.
What advice would you give other writers?
When you are writing you have to shut everyone out cause their is a possibility that they are going to make you stop. You have to finish what you started no matter what, if writing is what you love then no one can tell you than you can’t. Keep fighting for that, do not give up, cause no one else will.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I did give it a try with agents but after so many rejections I decided to take the matter into my own hands and try myself to show people my world. Self-publishing it’s difficult especially if you haven’t published before and no one knows your name but today with internet and all the media it is not impossible, you just have to keep insisting.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Book is an investment and as I can see it keeps increasing. Ebooks and books will never stop publish cause it is a way for someone to get out of his own thoughts and problems and explore new territories.
