Nenia Campbell was born and raised in the United States. From infancy, she was fond of books- especially the cardboard ones; they were the most delicious. As she grew older, she learned that ‘devouring a book’ was a phrase not to be taken literally. As a result, she became a very enthusiastic reader. When she discovered that the stories she wanted to read did not exist she became an enthusiastic writer, as well.
What inspires you to write?
Reading, dreams, life. Writing lets me piece together my thoughts in new and interesting ways.
Tell us about your writing process.
I don’t really have a process. I just sit down in front of the computer and let the masochism begin. My first draft is usually more of an outline, except fleshed out with dialogue and description. Subsequent drafts have added scenes, dialogue, and improved characterization. (I hope.)
What advice would you give other writers?
Always make time for reading.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I have persistent friends. They basically forced me into self-publishing and I’m glad I listened. I have a lot of self-esteem issues about my writing- I assume everything I write sucks until people tell me otherwise.
For the longest time, I wouldn’t have dreamed of sharing what I wrote with others. But then I started posting on Fictionpress.com and the result wasn’t completely negative. A lot of my readers actually suggested I try to publish.
My readers and my friends are responsible for my presence being foisted upon the public at large. I’m very grateful to them for that. 🙂
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
There is always room for improvement. I think book publishing has a bright future, but only if more authors learn how to communicate with their readers respectfully and effectively.
What genres do you write?
action-adventure, fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal, science-fiction, horror, romance, gothic, thriller, suspense, erotica, darkfic, dark fantasy, psychological, mystery
