Interview with Author – Nancy Glynn

NancyGlynn-2
About Nancy Glynn:
Nancy Glynn was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, the setting for all her stories. In her stories, you'll find strong, independent women with big hearts. These ladies are in their 30's and know what they want and don't want in a man. The leading men will make you drool, not only at their sexy appearance but by the way they treat their women. They are always gentlemen but passionate lovers. When they realize they are in love, nothing stops them from proving it. In the Town of Destiny series, you will meet these couples, all different from each book. And Never Let Her Go, And Never Say Goodbye, and working on And Never Give Up Hope. You will also get a glimpse of Chicago weather–the storms, oh, the storms…

When not writing, Nancy is laughing with her three teens, being treated like a queen by her adoring husband, and cuddling with her three dogs and bunny.

What inspires you to write?
What inspires me to write are the stories that run around in my head. Strangers demanding I write their story. It's a deep need that must have release. Love is the root of all my stories. An idea will pop into my head at random times, spurring a story/plot. The details usually filter through when I need them. Experiences from my life inspires my writing as well. My current new release was inspired by my husband's job in the organ donation world as a surgical coordinator.

Tell us about your writing process.
I light my candle, turn on my phone app 5,000 WPH with my word goal, and I just start writing. I'm a panster and only outline timelines, ages, background information to be consistent throughout. It's sometimes a family affair when choosing my leading characters' names. I aim to complete the first draft in 2 months and editing another month, so about 3 months total, and then send ARCs out (review copies) to my street team.

For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Oh, yes. It's their story. I believe it's basically downloaded to me and I just transcribe it. I know that may sound strange to non-writers, but it's true for me. I think about them a lot and picture scenes, even if I don't always write those scenes. They're real to me! They make me laugh a lot and also blush in certain scenes. They are the real deal.

What advice would you give other writers?
Don't listen to that voice in your head that tells you you're not good enough. I did that for so many years, comparing myself to other authors and thinking no way. Just believe in yourself and know you are meant for this if it doesn't leave you alone. It whispers to you and then gets loud and demanding. Also, always read up on grammar and editing. Know how to write a sentence. So many good books out there. You can never learn too much. I'm also a former medical transcriptionist and needed to produce 98% error-free documents, so I do my own editing. If you're not confidant in your own editing ability, hire someone. And read! Reading good and bad material only improves your own writing. And please don't be embarrassed of how a story needs to be told, thinking family will see this. Be honest and your work will be honored by those readers.

How did you decide how to publish your books?
I never even knew about independent publishing. I mean I knew about self-publishing, but I never understood it, thought it was a vanity thing, but it's so not. I accidentally discovered publishing my first book on Amazon in May 2015. It's been a journey, and now I've published my 5th title. I used to query agents and hated the long process of waiting. Self-publishing is an amazing journey I'm glad I've found. I'll take part in the first Indie Author's Day at my local library that will be all over North America on October 8, 2016. I'll be proud to be among my fellow indie authors, hopefully bringing awareness to our work. This will be my first author appearance and so excited!

What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I hope it continues to move in the positive way it's been moving, inspiring more writers to publish their work for the world to see. The digital world is upon us, and I'm proud to be part of it. I still make all my books into print, especially for signings, winnings on Goodreads Giveaways, etc., but digital is the new wave.
