About Michelle Bradshaw:
I am a mom to an amazing, comical, dancing, baseball-playing, wanna-be superhero. He inspires so much of my writing. I also have some furbabies. I am currently in school to finish my teaching degree. I have written two children’s books and one young adult novel so far. I also have a few series on Kindle Vella.
What inspires you to write?
My young adult novel was inspired by a dream I had. My two children's books were inspired by my wonderful son.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
C.M. Bradfield who writes the Melvin Monster series. Christy Sloat, J.S. Wilsoncroft, H.P. Mallory, and Robert Beatty are also authors I enjoy reading.
Tell us about your writing process.
I like to make sure there are no plot holes and that my characters have backstories, so I take a lot of notes while I write. I do a generalized outline, so I know the direction of the book, but I still let the plot and characters guide me.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I don't necessarily talk out loud to my characters, but they do talk to me in my head.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write from the heart. That feels like the best advice I can give because the best scenes in my young adult novel were written from tear-stained laptop keys. My second piece of advice is to write about what you know or should I say what you have experienced. We all have gone through things in life that might help someone else if you wrote it all down.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
My young adult novel was originally published by Anchor Group. When they, unfortunately, had to close their doors, I felt I had learned a lot from that experience and decided to self-publish. My advice for new authors would be to do the research and make the choice that is best for them.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I have really seen the self-publishing side of the book world really blossom in the last few years. I could see that continue to grow.
