What inspires you to write?
It is my passion to take the reader away from everyday life. I first got the idea while waiting for my father as he received chemotherapy. Murder in Mystic and Murder in Newport are also available in audiobooks which are easier for those who cannot hear or do not have the energy to read. I am thrilled with that option for those who need it.
Tell us about your writing process.
I am an outliner and seat of the pants writer rolled into one. At the start of the project, I outline the idea, characters, location and rough plot. As I write, the characters take on lives of their own and take me to places that I had not originally conceived.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I do not listen to or talk to my characters, but observe them. It is as if I am watching a movie. They interact with one another and I take notes.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write if you have the passion and a story to share.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I am an impatient person. When I complete a project, I want people to read it as soon as possible. Going the query letter route is too long a process for me. With today’s technology, I can receive instant gratification by self-publishing.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Due to the technology, more books will be self-published. People like to steer their own ships.
