About Lee Winter:
When Lee Winter isn’t writing books for kids, she works at her day job as a psychologist in the area of parenting and child behavior research. Lee has a number of extremely dry, boring, scientific publications under a pen name. Lee finds writing for kids way more fun! She lives in sunny Brisbane, Australia.
What inspires you to write?
Watching the faces on my children when they are enjoying a good book, totally engrossed in another world. It’s lots of fun to create something in the hope that it may entertain someone.
Tell us about your writing process.
A bit of both. I have to start with an outline (scratched on a notepad), but often the chapter may veer off on a path of its own. If that happens I just go with it and see what happens.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I kind of think of Angus as a third son now, and so I feel really bad when I have to make his life hard for the sake of the story. (I haven’t started actually talking to him yet :))
What advice would you give other writers?
Keep writing.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I did a lot of research into indie vs trad publishing. I decided to go with Indie to get my work out faster and have more control over it. I’m not sorry.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think indie publishing will grow and become more mainstream even though trad publishing will probably always be around in some form.
