About Lauren Kuzimski:
Lauren Kuzimski is a second year veterinarian student, who has a passion not only for animals but for writing as well. While she is always busy studying (really busy studying), she cannot help but take time out each day to work on a new story or idea. Creating a new world is half the fun in a day, and the other half is filling it with new characters.
Her debut book- Second Nature- is a taste of what she loves to write. Fantasy, young adult, characters that don’t fit the mold of “hero”. Writing from a villain’s point of view opens new doors and opportunities to explore the world’s created.
Second Nature is available now, and True Nature (the sequel) will be available in the future

What inspires you to write?
As a veterinary student, I can easily say what inspires me is to simply not study sometimes. The stress of vet school drives me to want to fall into another world, and what better world than one I can create. It is fantastical to want to wrap myself into a different place among different characters and watch/write/read how their lives and stories play out.
Since vet school never stops, I always find time to write (unless I have a test, then I don’t think I ever stop studying).

Tell us about your writing process.
Each book I’ve worked on seems to take a slightly different process. Sometimes when I’m writing, I outline exactly what I want to do with each part (as I did with my current book), but other times, I see scenes/glimpses of what I strive to want to eventually want to happen. The current book I’m writing (not True Nature as that’s already done) is leaning towards the latter. I know what scenes I want to have happen and the rough timeline to get there, but I haven’t outlined anything.
The process really depends on the book for me.

For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I’m a talker, hands down, but I’m always trying to listen. When I’m creating a scene, I first try the conversation aloud, talking with my character and listening to see if it sounds natural. Sometimes, I play the protagonist within a conversation, but many times, I feel as though I’m an outsider watching only interjecting when I feel as though it isn’t just “right”.

What advice would you give other writers?
The process is hard (we all know that), and we know that at times, we just want to give up and sleep. However, it could take years (with my schooling, it did), but at the end of the day, when you write “the end”, there is no better feeling. As such, keep going, keep pushing, because your vision is worth seeing until the end.

How did you decide how to publish your books?
Publishing is time consuming; don’t think you can just half-try it and get it done. I attempted numerous agents before I decided to self-publish. However, even self-publishing, is exhausting. It took me many weeks to months to get the formatting simply done, and even after I submitted my first copy, I found even more mistakes. The job is never done, so be ready to put 110% into just publishing a book.

What do you think about the future of book publishing?
As much as everyone loves kindle/ebooks, I feel as though paperbacks will never fade. Everyone I’ve spoken to, myself as well, loves the feeling of an actual book. While I think ebooks will continue to thrive, I highly doubt we will see any diminish in the paperback category as well.

What do you use?: Beta Readers

What genres do you write?: Fantasy

What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
