What inspires you to write?
I’m inspired by my experiences and reality in all its facets and layers. Truth is stranger than fiction as they say. I was inspired to write my transformational travel memoir to share what I learnt on my personal journey of evolution so that it could save others going on madcap adventures around the world or down rabbit holes themselves!
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
I love a huge range from Enid Blyton to Arthur Golden, to Paul Selig and Baird T Spalding.
Tell us about your writing process.
I write non-fiction so I am best when I take it all down in the moment. I have voice messages, journal notes and furious scrawled writing on receipts and napkins and whatever I can find in the moment. I certainly don’t have a shortage of material! Then I go back and rewrite my notes into a broader idea for a project. The project usually has it's own energy that dictates me, not the other way around!
What advice would you give other writers?
Just keep going!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I explored all options and had an offer from a smaller boutique publisher, but the lengthy time to market, giving up control and rights led me to believe it would be smarter to do it myself, so I self-published The Inside Hustle.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
The traditional publishing model is really broken and survives on the success of a few key authors globally. It has to change, and I think it’s exciting to think about how it could potentially transform. It’s up to us as authors to be innovative and forge new pathways for the betterment of all. The traditional publishers certainly aren’t going to do it!
