About Jeania Kimbrough:
Jeania Kimbrough is an American entrepreneur and author. Exploring new ideas and places are among her favorite pastimes. Reading is another. She likes to think she was born in the middle of a dried out ocean (commonly referred to as the Desert Southwest) and has been thirsty ever since.
What inspires you to write?
Complex people and situations inspire the writer in me.
Tell us about your writing process.
I do like to start with a rough outline, to know where I am going. I do create character sketches and go back to them as time goes on. I also try to look at the plot as a journey from point A to point B and everything in between.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I definitely try to hear them as I write — to hear their intonation to imagine their body language.
What advice would you give other writers?
Read a lot, as well as write. Try to work with other writers through courses or groups. And don’t quit your day job.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
When I first came out with Van Diemen at 17, my first book, the subject matter was more New Adult and there wasn’t a real genre for it yet. It was hard to place, so that realization and experience made me explore different avenues of publishing.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think is an exciting time in the book publishing world where authors take more control of their work, and yet they need professional expertise all the more. I think it has never been a better time to be a reader.
