What inspires you to write?
My main inspiration for writing is the many experiences I've had as an educator over the years.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
Katherine Paterson, Lois Lowry, and Harper Lee.
Tell us about your writing process.
I sit down and write. Many of the characters in my stories seem to be born in an instant as my fingers furiously tap away, but there are thousands of memories from years of teaching that swirl through my head and onto the laptop screen.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
My characters talk to me. Sometimes I answer. For example, when writing Cotton Candy Angels: Finding Naballon, Jessica was forever trying to tell me to write silly things. I remind her who's in charge, but she sometimes gets her way!
What advice would you give other writers?
Never stop learning! Nobody knows everything there is to know.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self-publish because I like to be in charge of what I write. When you're writing, you should allow your thoughts to travel everywhere. You'll sometimes be surprised where they take you.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I believe self-publishing is the future of book publishing. The majority of authors will self-publish and sell books from their personal websites.
What genres do you write?: Juvenile Fiction: Fantasy and Adventure
What formats are your books in?: eBook
