About Inonge Mitchie:
My name is Inonge Mitchie. I was born on the 23rd of December 1989 in Zambia. I went to college and studied Animal Science but my passion for writing runs deeper. I write books, short stories, screenplays and poems. I love family, food and travel and of course movies and music. One of my main missions in life is to make people laugh and so I hope when you read my book it will laugh and give you a happiness that no other book has been able to.
What inspires you to write?
I'm inspired by the things I love. Family. Movies. Music. Fashion. Food. Nature and anything else that's unique and beautiful.
Tell us about your writing process.
I look at something a story comes to me and I write. It usually starts with a character, I create one and then centre the story around him/her.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I am all my characters and so writing is such a joy to me. Bringing all these weird characters together and putting them the lot of them together to find out which ones work best with each other and so yes I talk to my characters all the time.
What advice would you give other writers?
To master your skill and stick to it. Don't try and be like other writers, discover what makes you you and never lose it. The world is diverse for a reason so never try to be anyone else but your true self.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
My book is self published because I didn't have any money to have it published professionally. Still I really needed to get my work out there and so I took the next best option.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think there should be a little more flexibility, I know it's a business but there's a lot of talent out there that is being neglected because of the issue of money. If there could be grants awarded to young upcoming writers to encourage them and others, a great difference could be made.
