About Hoot N. Holler:
Hoot N. Holler is a daughters/mother writers/illustrator team. Hoot, the funny one spends her free time scribbling green and purple ink all over Holler’s words. N., the illustrator, is completely immersed in Tamriel. Holler is aptly named; especially during a UMD game.
What inspires you to write?
Holler told wild bedtime stories and read books to Hoot and N. when they were young, which gave them the love of story telling. Naturally, when N. hit middle school, she wrote her first novel, a historic romance, which has never been read by anyone! She went on to create a fantasy series and painted covers for each of her books. But, they've also never been read. Holler just completed her first picture book.
Tell us about your writing process.
Hoot and Holler sit behind a computer and throw out ideas. They hand those ideas to N., who captures the magic with drawings.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
We listen to each other for the most part. Sometimes, we get interrupted by a character who either doesn't like what we've written, or has another idea. Sometimes, we need to just say no.
What advice would you give other writers?
We believe in the Nike creed: Just do it! All the ideas swirling around need to get out. So, just allow them to flow and you'll be relieved at how much work you can finally get done!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
We wanted the control self-publishing gave. We can control every aspect of our book: the cover, which N. designed, the layout, the illustrations, even down to the font!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
With so many more authors being able to get their books into the hands of readers, the future will only get better!
