About Hebby Roman:
Hebby Roman is the multi-published author of both historical and contemporary romances. Her first contemporary romance, SUMMER DREAMS, was the launch title for Encanto, a print line featuring Latino romances. And her re-published e-book, SUMMER DREAMS, was #1 in Amazon fiction and romance.
Hebby is a member of the Romance Writers of America, and the past president of her local chapter, North Texas Romance Writers. She was selected for the Romantic Times “Texas Author” award, and she won a national Harlequin contest. Her book, BORDER HEAT, was a Los Angeles Times Book Festival selection.
She graduated with highest honors from the University of Texas in Austin and was selected for inclusion in the first edition of Who’s Who in American Women.
She is blessed to have all her family living close by in north Texas, including her family’s latest edition, her granddaughter, Mackenzie. Hebby lives in Arlington, Texas with her husband, Luis, and Maltipoo, Maximillian.
What inspires you to write?
Historical events, unique places and unique individuals inspire me. I also like to write based on certain themes. My first print published book in 1996, “Betrayed,” was a Latino “Gone with the Wind.” My Amazon Encore selection, “The Princess and the Templar,” is a medieval romance with the underlying theme of the famous book and TV serial, “The Thornbirds.”
Tell us about your writing process.
I get an idea for a story and think about it for up to a month or so. Then if I feel the story has the requisite conflict to carry it through, I sit down and write extensive backgrounds of my main characters to get to know them and learn their motivations. I then do a short outline, especially focusing on first three chapters. I try to come up with the right place to begin the story with a bang. Then I sit down to write and learn more about my characters as they unfold for me in dialogue, action and interaction. I watch how my characters deviate from my outline, and always go where the internal and external conflict leads me.

Not verbally, usually on paper. See my writing process above.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write what you love and know about, write what you’re passionate about. Don’t try to follow the trends and don’t write your book to fit what’s “in” in social media. Write the book of your heart and then promote it.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I was traditionally print published in the beginning. When I started back writing in the digital world, I chose to be published with a small press, The Wild Rose Press for their editorial input and support. I also enjoy indie publishing for the freedom to write what I want to write and when I want to write it.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I really am not certain about the future, except there will be more series, more anthologies, more tied-together books. Digital publishing will continue to grow, I believe. But the future is very fluid.
