About Heather Dahlgren:
Heather Dahlgren writes Contemporary Romance, sprinkling each book with a bit of humor, a lot of naughty and true love. She self-published her first book in 2014 and continues to do so today. Her over active mind promises the stories are in no short supply.
Heather grew up and still resides at the Jersey shore. She loves being so close to the Atlantic Ocean and the Pine Barrens. She is surrounded by the best of both worlds.
She is married to her high school sweetheart and has three kids. There is nothing more important in the world to her then her family.
When Heather isn’t writing you can find her getting lost in a great book, spending time with family and helping her fellow authors.
What inspires you to write?
There is a lot of things that inspire me to write. My readers inspire me, my characters, my family. Music inspires me, although I can’t listen to it while I write. Touching a fan with something I’ve written is a huge inspiration for me.
Tell us about your writing process.
I am a seat of the pants writer. The only thing I know going in is how it will begin, the problem they will face and the ending. Honestly, most of the time those change too as I write.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Yes I absolutely listen and talk to my characters. If I didn’t listen to them I wouldn’t be able to write a book. They tell me the story and I write it out. Sometimes, I will have to convince them it won’t work they way they want it to go and most of the time I win, but not always.
What advice would you give other writers?
My advice to other writers is always follow your dream. If being an author is that dream is, let nothing stand in the way. No matter how hard it gets, keep pushing on. It won’t always be easy, but if you want it bad enough, it is always worth it.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self-publish. Self-publishing gives me the freedom to do anything I want to do. I have no deadlines, no restrictions. Everything is done on my time, the exact way I want it to be done.
I advise new authors to explore all options. What is right for someone, won’t be right for everyone.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think the future of book publishing is bright. There are so many amazing undiscovered authors that just add to this amazing community.
