About Haley Anna Marie:
Due to childhood deafness, the writer inside created stories to match the pictures in the books being read to me. Once my hearing was corrected at the age of 7, I fell in love with storytelling.
My six-book dark fantasy series, Elementas, is my prized possession. I can't wait to share my story with the world.
What inspires you to write?
I find writing a healthy outlet of self-care. It's a way to escape reality, focus on something other than the day-to-day stress and struggles. Nothing is greater than fantasy.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
Patrick Rothfuss is my current favorite author. I am excited for his third book to come out in his trilogy, whenever that may be. He has a side story coming out in November, so that will do!
Tell us about your writing process.
I outline my entire book, and series. Using simple Word, I have the chapters, who is narrating, what happens, sometimes even specific dialogues. I know what is going to happen, and what will be said, for the most part, all the way to the end of book six. I even have a character list of descriptions, habits, flaws, and goals. I call all of this my "author bible."
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Neither. I more of "become" them. Try to see it through their eyes by asking myself "is this a natural way of acting, talking, and interacting?"
What advice would you give other writers?
If you have the confidence to publish, have the confidence to promote BEFORE you do so. That is the mistake I made, and I kick myself for it.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self-publish because I wanted to be "my own boss." I didn't want someone else pressuring me on a deadline. I didn't want someone to tell me how my cover should be. This is my creation.
Although self-publishing is a never ending learning experience, I would truly look into every option that works best for you. I had to leave a provider because their quality was horrible while I merely earned less than a dollar for each book bought. Not everyone is fair.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I didn't realize how big the indie author industry was until I joined the community. I've heard others say that the traditional publishing is starting to feel threatened. Whether that is true or not, I see both thriving in their own ways.
What genres do you write?: Fantasy, though specifically, dark fantasy.
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
