About Eileen Troemel:
From poetry to novel, Eileen enjoys telling a good story or expressing a heartfelt emotion. She’s been published in Circle Magazine, The American Tarot Association’s Quarterly Journal, What’s Cooking America, Children, Churches and Daddies, placed second in Words of Women 2010 Writing Contest, 2012 Daily Flash, and The Deadman’s Tome. She has a bachelor’s degree in business and a second bachelor’s degree in English Professional Writing and Book Editing. On the side, she has a small editing business. In addition to her work, she loves to read, crochet, crafting, research genealogy, and spend time with family. She has three adult daughters and has been married to her husband for over 30 years.

What inspires you to write?
Life, love, loss, almost anything…

Tell us about your writing process.
My writing process is simple. I sit in my recliner with my netbook and write. If I’m working on a series I’ve got started the characters and settings are familiar and comfortable. If I’m starting a completely new project, I usually have a character or setting in mind and the project builds from that. I have a day job and must spend time with my husband but he goes to bed early so once I’m alone for the evening, I’m in the recliner with a single light on and classical music playing. I’m either writing, editing, or crocheting while I listen to an audio book.

For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I talk about my characters like they are real and they often hijack my stories so absolutely. Non-writers may think I’m crazy but it helps me to know them if they feel real. If they don’t feel real to me, they won’t feel real to the readers.

What advice would you give other writers?
WRITE!!!! Study the craft, read what you want to write, WRITE!!! Recognize your bad habits and work to eliminate them – for me this is a list of words I know I overuse. When I’m done with a manuscript, I search out each occurrence of these words and try to eliminate them. WRITE!!! I can’t say it enough WRITE… Get a thick skin because there is going to be someone who is cranky about what you write – whether they don’t like it or you’re getting rejected daily – you have to take it, learn from it, and move on.

How did you decide how to publish your books?
I tried the traditional route and got a lot of interest but not a lot of contracts. After years of trying to get published this way, I gave up and asked my writers group who had self published and what they used. I publish using Createspace (for hard copies), KDP (for Amazon) and Smashwords (for everywhere else). I did a lot of research and was scared to death I would mess it up. I did but the world didn’t end and now I have lots of books out.

What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Like any business, I believe the book publishing business is evolving and changing. I know people are saying – ebooks are going to kill books – but I don’t believe it will – at least not yet. Audio books is growing, ebooks is growing, physical books is growing (though at a smaller rate). People love to read and while our society is changing and evolving, I think so long as the publishing world changes with the trends it will continue.

What do you use?: Beta Readers

What genres do you write?: poetry, self-help, romance, fantasy and science fiction

What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
