What inspires you to write?
What inspires me to write is the desire to express my beliefs and who I am as a person. It is a vehicle for self-expression.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
I would say Robert Munsch because he is follows my belief of what kids should have which is lessons through entertainment. All his books are to meant to teach us lessons, but are funny at the same time. My book is the same.
Tell us about your writing process.
To me, I feel writing is more than words. I believe that writing is a life story written by every person. Any writing piece consists of theories and thoughts of people. That is what makes it creative and why I love writing because I get to be my unique authentic self.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I most certainly listen to and talk to my characters because I am all about learning about backstories and problem solving. I believe when people follow this literary method, they have a better chance of understanding characters and plots of stories.
What advice would you give other writers?
The same advice I always give to everyone as an influencer which is to be yourself and write all about what you believe. You never know what your next writing adventure might be.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I chose to self-publish my award winning children's book, Watch Out! It's Nolan! because I did not want to face the burden of having to deal with publishers or literary agencies and potentially be forced into writing what I didn't want to. No one ever said you cannot succeed by self-publishing. On top of that, you also have your freedom to present your book as you wish.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I always encourage other authors to self-publish and that way they can do their own marketing and potentially land opportunities on their own without having to depend on others. They can decide to accept or decline opportunities without being forced. I think the future should have more freedom of choice in publishing.
