About Dale E. Manolakas:

After a lifetime of writing poetry, books, nonfiction, and legal documents, it was author Ray Bradbury's friendship and encouragement that finally inspired Dale E. Manolakas to pursue writing as a career. Dale E. Manolakas earned her B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles, and M.A., M.S., Ph.D. and J.D. degrees from the University of Southern California. She is a member of the California Bar, had the privilege of clerking for The Honorable Arthur L. Alarcón at the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, was a litigator in two major Los Angeles law firms, and a senior appellate attorney at the California Court of Appeals, as well as an Administrative Law Judge. Member of SAG-AFTRA and Actors' Equity Association.
What inspires you to write?
I have certain legal cases and issues that are of great personal interest to me.
Tell us about your writing process.
Since I am knowledgeable about the legal issues and know the cases I want to address, my main process is creating characters to tell the story. Fortunately, I am well educated and trained in creating characters, note membership in SAG-AFTRA and Actors' Equity Association.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
My characters do what they want within the parameters of their personalities. It's exciting.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write. Write. Write.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I analyzed the market. I know the sales channels and formats and the percentages they hold in the market place. There is nothing creative about selling your artwork. And I will not give my opinion about the Elephant in the room that dominates book sales or the number of authors who can no longer support themselves with quality book production.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I hope that people worldwide will seek an educational level that makes them thirsty for knowledge and intelligent entertainment.
