About Celesta Thiessen:
I live in Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada with my husband and two young daughters. We’re homeschoolers and entrepreneurs. My husband and I make iOS apps and I write stories. Being a writer is magical – spinning nothing into stories – stories that can light the way to a different world.
What inspires you to write?
I feel called to write, to bring Truth into the world through fiction.
Tell us about your writing process.
Before I start writing I like to have in mind a beginning, an ending, a setting and a couple of characters. But I never outline. That takes the fun out of it for me. I need to feel the excitement of not knowing exactly what will happen next.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
After I finished my first novel, I took a look at my options for book publishing. I found that for most presses you needed to have an agent. And for the ones that didn’t the waiting period to hear back from them was six months to a year! I knew jumping through so many hoops and waiting so long would discourage me. So I decided to self publish. Way shorter time to market and I had complete creative control over the project.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think the future of book publishing is bright. As time moves forward and our culture becomes even more entertainment focused I think people will start reading more. There have been an increasing number of popular movies based on books. That’s a good thing because it will get the general population more interested in reading.
