Author Bio:
Barbara Silkstone is the best-selling author of the Wendy Darlin Tomb Raider series that includes: Wendy and the Lost Boys, London Broil, Cairo Caper, Wendy Darlin Tomb Raider Boxed Set. Her Criminally Funny Fables series includes: The Secret Diary of Alice in Wonderland, Age 42 and Three-Quarters; Wendy and the Lost Boys; Zo White and the Seven Morphs; Cold Case Morphs.

The way Ms. Silkstone plays with words is unrivaled and the way she incorporated segments from favorite movie clips is genius. She uses sharp wit throughout her stories, her plots are strong, and the action nonstop. ~ Big Al’s Books and Pals

What inspires you to write?
I can’t NOT write. I think of one funny line and months later it’s become an entire comic adventure. Perhaps this is the result of too many hours spent watching Looney Tunes… or my passion for all things Monty Python.

Tell us about your writing process.
I think we all have our high-creative times. I’m great at five in the morning and late afternoon. I shrivel up at night. And I must have complete silence when I write. I wish I could write to music, but I’m easily distracted.

My crazy characters seem to fly in the window much like Harry Potter’s white owl. They show up bearing the strangest names… Fiona Feelgood, Croc, Tickemoff, Sergie Sputum, and Stillpork the pig.

For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I’m a rogue outliner. I outline and then come off track somewhere in the middle. Once I meet my characters there really is no need for a sketch. They are like old friends… or that annoying little boy who sat in back of me in second grade. They take over and run with the story. Especially Wendy Darlin. I have no idea when her temper or her clumsiness will pivot the story in another direction. As far as talking to my characters, I am surprised I have not been locked up for my most public chats with my characters. Our talks become particularly vocal on long walks. 🙂

What advice would you give other writers?
Write every single day. Keep a journal, of course. Dine alone in restaurants. It’s amazing the conversations you will overhear. Think of your mind as a blender… throw in as much dialogue and odd ideas as will fit, then push the MASH button. Pour out the results on your pages.

How did you decide how to publish your books?
I knew I was darn funny but my books did not fit squarely in a genre. So I went Indie and found lovely success. Not everyone gets my humor but those that do, can’t seem to get enough. Self-publishing was the only route for me. It allowed me to find an audience for all those quirky stories I held deep inside me.

What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It’s like the Wild West. I have no idea where it is headed. I’m just holding on tight and writing every day.

Professional Editor, Professional Cover Designer, Beta Readers

Comedy Adventure, Comedy Mystery
