About Asaf Rozanes:
My name is Asaf Rozanes and I'm the author and creator of the "Mindful Mia" – children empowering picture book series. 🙂
I'm a single dad, father of 5 y/o Mia, a life coach and children's author with a witty, humoristic and refreshing writing style. The combination of catchy rhymes spiced with humor, an ethical message and a practical life tool appeals to the hearts of children and parents alike.
As a life coach, I aim to give children the tools required to lead a more happy, productive and successful life – enjoying the journey and embracing it.
Every book contains a message and a practical day-to-day tool which is suitable for children and adults alike.
I want children to enjoy and embrace life.
I want them to keep talking to their inner child and keep that flame alive and kicking!
I want them to make mistakes, to be creative, true to themselves and to understand that is where they grow and succeed…I want them to remain free creative thinkers and doers!
What inspires you to write?
My 5 y/o daughter and the funny/silly things we do and experience together – whether its learning how to create slime (how is this a trend?!), hand color the house or play nail spa day (the next day at work was an interesting one)
Tell us about your writing process.
Usually i just sit down and write a real scenario from our lives, for example one of my books is about Mia being "bullied" at kindergarten about her height since she's shorter than average.
We had a candid talk about this one day when we were on vacation and suddenly the sun and shadows came into mind and i came up with a story to tell her which shows that things like height can change but what is important is friendship and having a good heart – and this later became the story on which the first story contains and is based on – "Short Or Tall Doesn't Matter At All" 🙂
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Well, my main character is my 5 y/o daughter so all interactions are pretty much based on real life chats and challenging discussions i had with Mia and had to come up with creative answers or questions on the spot.
I came to understand i'm pretty good at this and this Dad thing is pretty awesome and i was always meant to do it! 🙂
What advice would you give other writers?
Enjoy the journey and adventure which is life with ALL that it brings – every experience is something to learn and grow from. Remain open and accepting to the wonders of the universe – you'd be surprised at what can happen and when you'll look back you'll realize this is what made you who you are and there's no other way or place you want to be!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self publish for 2 main reasons: 1. Being self sufficient and independent with everything related to my creations.
2. Capital and expenses.
Where i live its a VERY big expense to publish a book and you hardly see any real income from it as others get to eat that cake.
I was always an out of the box thinker and doer and decided to take this adventure since writing books is my passion since i won writing competitions in kindergarten and pre-school.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I hope this continues to develop in the same way – more independence and options to authors and self publishing and an open relationship and communication between authors and our readers by cutting out the middle man.
