Lose weight, build muscle, get fit and stay healthy with a good diet and exercise! We live in an age where the need for and importance of exercise is stressed. We read about it in magazines; we read about celebrities and how much of their lives are devoted (or not devoted) to exercise, in their pursuit of hot bodies; we have dieting books galore, all stressing the need to change our diets, and to include exercise; we are surrounded by booklets, pamphlets and leaflets given out at doctor’s offices, gyms, clinics, insurance companies, medical aids, and others, all telling us about the importance of exercise to health, combat disease, long life, beauty, emotional well-being, and so on. Why does it seem, then, that despite so much information being available, so many people still ignore it, and continue living as if they knew nothing?
Well, maybe part of the answer is that we ignore things that we believe do not apply to us. We disregard the concerns of others, thinking that that concern is important for them alone, yet, somewhere along the line, we cannot keep disregarding a fact or truth that is, in fact, very well researched and documented. It is indeed a factor that each one of us should consider and make decisions about. So let us briefly look again at some of the reasons why exercise is so important and beneficial, before moving on to some discussions about the different kinds of exercise we could get involved with, once we are convinced of the need to do so.
