What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I wanted to write a book with an unreliable narrator, and I also wanted to write a book with a dark twist. After combining the two, I added the ghost element that only the main character could see. This was such a fun romantic book to write, with lots of drama and suspense, which is exactly what I was hoping for.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Being that it takes place in a small country town, I wanted to create characters that felt close-knit but that also had many secrets to hide. If you've ever lived in a small town, you know how hard it can be to hide secrets. I also adore magnolia trees, so I added that as an element in the book and gave the ghost a name: Magnolia. Throw in some cheerleaders and sports players into the mix, and you've got yourself a cast.
