I like the concept, but the nitpicker in me noticed the bullets look old and tarnished and not reliable–like they were found in a trunk in the garage or something. Why not some shiney, polished bullets, to match the shiny lipstick? Also, why not a rifle bullet, which whould be the same height as the lipstick? Although, she probably can’t fit a rifle in her purse, so pistol rounds do work…

Actually, the bullets (for a S&W .38, which she uses) are from the era of the story & look a bit different from those of today. The lipstick is also from the era. My artist is a nitpicker too : )
I’m drawn to this cover instantly, and it gives me a feeling that the book will take me on a witty rollercoaster ride. The cover suggests many things: the era in which the story is set, a female protagonist, danger, and a sense of humor.

This cover perfectly captures the feel of a gumshoe story with a feminine edge. I can sense an action packed mystery laced with wisecracks awaits me when I open the book
This is a vivid and simple cover but it immediately conveys the sort of 1930’s feel which I think is the era the mystery novel is set. It certainly indicates that the protagonist is a female and despite being a ‘tough cookie’ is also attractively feminine. I just love it.
