My publisher uses the cover designer Celairen, who designs several fantasy style books. We went back and forth about the cover, working to make it just right.

The cover uses a beautiful mixture of warm colours and tones, instead of a more traditional cold colours and main black theme, which makes it original.
And the fact that the young woman doesn’t look evil or mean, as the title would suggest, it makes it interesting; it makes you want to know why she doesn’t look like the title says.
In overall, I really like this cover, it is both original and makes you want to read it, just by making you enough curious. But also, it doesn’t bring false hope. You get what you see: a young girl enrolling in a school of death. Which is basically what a cover must do.

I like the way this cover stand out of the crowd of young fantasy covers, where you only have one womans face and a interchangable background showing at the cover. The customation of the cover to the story is great. Also showing a innocent and pretty girl in a reaper dress is something, which make me want to read the book.

It might not be right, but I do tend to judge a book by the cover when I’m scanning for something to read. The cover made me ask questions and that always makes me stop and take a look at the description.

I do like the way this cover invites the reader in. That’s what all covers are there to do, but this one is intriguing. What does such a modest and engaging young lady have to do with death? That seems to me to be the question it’s asking and the answer we need. I like the subtle MIU logos. It’s a bit like the ‘Where’s Wally’ cartoons for me as I try to locate them. Anne Stenhouse

I love the way the girl is guarding the way into the mysterious background but her face isn’t menacing and the whole thing is inviting you to enter. Very nice cover!

Love this cover. I don’t generally read this genre, and yet I find the cover intriguing. Love her tormented eyes, the way her hair blows across her face and the clench her hands have on the staff. Nice job!

I’ll add that as difficult as it was to work with the cover designer to craft a perfect cover, an even harder challenge was finding a young actor who looked like the girl (already printed) on the book cover. I wanted a live action book trailer, and as a theatre teacher, knew using teen actors was a possibility, but also wanted my cover and my trailer to match. One of my students filled in for the part, resembling this young girl in the drawing remarkably.

Nice image, not sure about the placement of the Muse Young Adult in the upper left. I found it to be distracting. If it needs to be there, I would move it to the bottom somewhere. I would argue it doesn’t need to be there, but that’s just my opinion. 😉

Very nice! This cover would make me pick up the book.
