Cabin Goddess is a unique blog where I do my best to make authors shine. I try to discuss the authors, their works, what they are doing and host tours etc. I create beautiful posts and also participate in writing challenges myself, since I am also an author. 90% of the blog, however, is centered around other authors. I do unique interviews and author spotlights and combine reviews and interviews with recipes since I am also a well known foodie who is in the process of writing cookbooks as well.
Why Did You Start a Book Blog?
Some crazy woman read a review I did and saw I had read over 200 books so far that year and exclaimed I should be reviewing books on my blog! So, i said why not! I also have a English Literature degree and books are part of my life and always have been. I have a huge passion for independent projects, not just in the book industry and always want to help those in need of support!
What Kinds of Books do You Review?
Criminal Fiction (including mystery, procedural, suspense/thriller but not true crime unless it is a fictionalized account of one.)
Procedural fiction (such as Kathy Reich style, or Beverly Connor’s Dianne Fallon or Lindsay Chamberlain series)
Horror (I prefer high-end, psychological, gothic, poetry, shorts etc… horror such as with Clive Barker, Stephen King, Lovecraftian/Cthulhu Mythos arena)
SCIENCE FICTION (I realize I open myself up to a lot of sub-genres, but I have listed a few here also.)
Speculative Fiction
Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Fantasy/Epic Fantasy (epic as in the story format not the length of the book)
Mystery (honestly, ANYTHING mystery is always one of my favorites to read. I am a HUGE Agatha Christie reader and my fiance and I read Sherlock Holmes out loud to each other for an hour each Sunday evening. Currently I am really in love with paranormal mysteries such as Ann Charles Deadwood Series)
Trangressive (dark-fucked up, graphically twisted books)
CYBERPUNK
STEAMPUNK
Alternative History
Dystopian
Pandemic/Post Apocalyptic (ONE of my primary favorites)
ZOMBIE, VAMPIRE, WEREWOLF – see a theme here people? Classic monster stories even with urban novels.
Snarky fun humorous paranormal books (example would be Rose Pressey, ALL of her series would be a good example)
Literary Fiction (picky picky picky being a ENG LIT girl)
Short Stories, YES I will review and feature them!
(This is not a complete list of what I will read, which is why I posted what I will not read before it)

Genres I will not review:
I will NOT read or review straight up Romance (as in Harlequin style romance novels). If it is part of the story (urban/paranormal romance is iffy but I will consider it when it is paranormal heavy and not romance heavy with a witch or ghost or werewolves thrown in).
I do not review what philistines call erotica, I do only literotica and it takes a high-end erotica to even entice me, as to date I have done ONE.
I do not read Christian Fiction of any kind what so ever,either.
I will not review Indie historical fiction.
I do not review non-fiction books.
I do not do memoirs (for the most part)
What advice would you give new book bloggers?
Write a review policy, set up a google calendar and set reminders each time you take a book. You do not need to tell an author you will have the book read by SUCH and such date, unless you are agreeing to have an ARC read. You need to do this for your own sanity. I would be redundant and keep a daily running daily task list, and gmail also has one or you can keep one in writing. TO DO LISTS. USE PLUG INS, use templates, create a rating system, make sure you have a disclaimer (for FTC). Join blogging groups, create bookshelves on Goodreads. Do this all prior to launching yourself and get your FB page going. I didn’t and I am still scrambling!
