What inspires you to write?
It all depends. Sometimes inspiration comes from conversations I overhear or a place I visit, other times it’s from objects.
Tell us about your writing process.
I just started outlining. In the past I was a total pants writer, but my recent stories have been more complicated and it’s taken more work to keep everything straight.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I listen to my characters. I used to joke that one of my characters just wouldn’t stay dead. I would be working on new projects and he was chattering inside my head wanting his own story told.
What advice would you give other writers?
The most important thing is to read. Read everything you can get your hands on in your genre.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I had some success in publishing with literary magazines, but I wanted to move my stories more toward the paranormal so I self published and haven’t looked back. Yes, it is a ton of work, but I love every minute of it.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think hybrid publishing will become more popular and I would hope that indie authors and indie bookstores would continue to work together to bring new books to readers.
