When I Grow Up What Will I Be? Is something many kids think about.–
Michali Mazor, the 15-year-old author of this book, shares her own musings of childhood as she describes in adorable rhymes and lovely illustrations the many professions she contemplated. “What I Want to Be When I Grow Up” inspires kids to embrace possibilities and anticipate the future with a positive ‘Yes I Can’ attitude. But while Michali encourages kids to dream about the future and think of the many options available to them she also reminds them to celebrate who they are today.
It is important to encourage children to dream and have ambitions. As well, it is wonderful to inspire children’s imagination. But never should kids (or their parents) forget to enjoy and appreciate what and who they are right now!
Targeted Age Group:
4-8
To write for children, means to understand children. It is to give voice to a language that will resonate with kids, and inspire their imagination and promote their love for reading.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
I would give the same advise musician are given when they aspire to play in Carnegie Hall “practice, practice, practice. But the writers I would say “write, write, write.”
Author Bio:
Michali Mazor is a 15-year-old South Floridian multi-talented young woman who is about to begin her junior year in high school. During the last few summers, Michali worked with young children as their counselor in local day camps, an experience that solidified her resolve to pursue a career in education.
As an educator, Michali plans to continue and enjoy her favorite pastimes, which include reading, writing, singing, and performing in musicals and comedies and share the love of the arts with her students.
Michali’s first book, What I Want to Be When I Grow Up is based on her own musings as a child. She is currently working on more books for young children as well as a novel for pre-teens.
I was inspired to write this book this summer when I listened to the kids in my bunk talk about what they want to be when they grow up. It reminded me of my childhood musings. Though I know now that I want to pursue a career in education, it was only five-six years ago when I was still carried on the wings of imagination and envisioned myself in a myriad of fabulous occupations.
