One of the biggest differences is that you are writing for readers with a different intellectual and emotional level than your own, which means you have to step back and think, how will this be perceived seen through children’s eyes? Also, parents are the ones who choose books for their children. Their tastes, sensibilities and expectations are very different from their children’s so you have two audiences for your books.
For me making a book usually consists of a short but explosive and intense periods of creativity then tweaking and perfecting for a while before it is all done. Writing a novel for example would be an entirely different beast.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Be prepared for a long steep road if you choose to self-publish. Many hours building your platform and promoting your books. Keep your expectations low in the beginning but never lose your enthusiasm!
Author Bio:
This is the Spanish translation of ALL IN A JAM which was written to feed the insatiable appetite for anything with wheels that some kids seem to have.
I used to think that little boys loved cars because they learnt the behaviour from watching others. Then I had two boys and realised that I was wrong – they just love them because they do! And if they are broken well, that’s even better! I wrote this book with that thought in mind.
