In this compelling prequel to the Capital City Series, The Fab Four of Capital City introduces Calista Caldwell, a driven journalism student, and her three closest friends during an unforgettable holiday season in 2007.
When Cal’s childhood friends, Jo and Amy, visit her at university, they’re excited to meet her new friend, Brigid. But their festive reunion takes a dark turn at a holiday party when the four friends find themselves at the center of a scandal involving a prominent athlete and a devastating crime.
With the authorities unwilling to act, Cal and her friends take matters into their own hands. As they dig deeper, Cal and Brigid uncover a disturbing pattern of assaults that have been swept under the rug by a key figure in the community. With the odds stacked against them and backlash mounting, the friends refuse to be silenced, setting the stage for their own #MeToo moment. But fighting for justice comes at a price—resilience is tested, reputations are threatened, and they must confront the chilling reality of exposing a flawed system.
This is more than just a story of survival; it’s a tale of courage and solidarity as Cal, Jo, Amy, and Brigid navigate the complexities of seeking justice. The Fab Four of Capital City is a powerful prequel that sets the stage for the Capital City Series, highlighting the bravery it takes to speak out in the face of systemic corruption and complicity.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I worked in municipal politics for over six years where I endured incomprehensible incidents of harassment, I left shortly after becoming a mother. In fall of 2019, I found out this powerful local figure hadn’t stopped his predatory behaviour after I left his employment in late 2016. In fact, he’d become more brazen. In a post-#MeToo world, survivors were finally being believed, and a news article was published by an incredible journalist.
An internal investigation was launched into the conduct of this elected official, and I can’t begin to describe how terrified I was when coming forward to the city's Integrity Commissioner. This politician held a power over me that only those who have survived an abusive situation can truly understand the fear and misplaced loyalty that I grappled with. I was advised, for the integrity of the investigation, not to discuss the details of my experiences with anyone other than a therapist or a lawyer. Writing it all out was cathartic, and under the circumstances, it became my main source of unburdening. It allowed me to finally face my trauma and begin to heal. Therapy helped me navigate the shame and guilt I felt when confronted with my truth. I was given tools to use throughout the process. I’m still on a healing path to this day.
A few days after completing the sworn testimony, it hit me: It’s time. Write that book. Take back your story. I harnessed my pain as fuel and began creating this world—Capital City. I developed wards and councillors, gave them names, and imagined their personalities. I visualized the ward landscapes and demographics. I couldn't change the reality of my story, but through writing, I would take back control and craft a new narrative—one that would empower and validate other women.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The characters in my stories are inspired by the people I’ve encountered on my journey and the public figures who have made an impression—both good and bad. The Fab Four of Capital City—Cal, Amy, Jo, and Brigid—each carry pieces of me and the dear people in my life, blending traits, experiences, and strengths into the dynamic characters they’ve become.
As for the villains, they are often drawn from real-world figures whose bad behavior has made headlines. Many of these individuals avoided facing true justice, but through my stories, I aim to explore the impact of their actions while giving my characters the power to stand up against them.
