With summer just around the corner, the last thing on Brandon’s mind is his final essay for sixth-grade English class. In fact, all he wants right now — aside from a refreshing, escapist nap — is to hang out on the rooftop with his friends and his pet crow, Ralph. Or even better: To build a remote-controlled car for the big upcoming race!
Not only will the winner be the talk of the town, but the winning car will be featured in an exciting new video game. Can Brandon and his pit crew of friends and family raise the funds to buy the parts and construct a victorious speedster before time runs out? Through bake sales and car washes, run-ins with local police, lots and lots of elbow grease and even more grease grease, Brandon chases the wildest dream he’s ever had.
In this fun and quietly compelling middle-grade novel, Brandon experiences a true awakening when he learns the values of persistence, honesty, and community.
As they say, it takes a village to raise a world-class hot rod!

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
As co-authors, we have four grandchildren and none of them are that keen about reading. We hoped writing a story especially for them would be exciting and possibly pique their interest to read the book. Then perhaps, even start a small ember for the love of reading. Our grandchildren are truly our inspiration for our writing.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The main character is a twelve-year-old boy, Brandon, who started out as a reflection of one of the authors as a young boy. He's a dreamer. We wanted him to have a best friend, Josh, who is nothing like Brandon. He's scrapy and can fix anything mechanically. To ensure we had a character to insert humor, we have Skip. He's a bit clumsy and gets teased by the boys, but he wins them over with his artistic talent. We definitely wanted this to be a story for boys and girls, so it was appropriate to introduce Penny and Sophie. Penny is our take-charge person who displays leadership, and Sophie is bright but a bit shy. Then there is Ralph, Brandon's pet crow, who takes center stage often in the story. Together, they are great friends that share adventures and challenges in THE BIG DREAM!
